who is holding your money right now
Vacation Package Cancellation Terms
Vacation package cancellation terms belong to whoever is holding your money, and that is never this company. This page says who is holding what, and from when.
Follow the money, because that is who decides
Nothing you pay reaches this company. It goes to the airline, the hotel, the guiding company, the ship or the permit authority, directly, and it sits with whichever of them took it.
So the answer to "can I get it back" is never one answer. It is one answer per party, and on a trip with four suppliers there are four of them, with four different deadlines.
Who holds what, in the order they take it
- Nobody, while you are decidingNothing is owed and nothing is taken. Walking away costs nothing and nobody chases you
- The operator, from the day you agreeTheir deposit, usually not refundable, usually taken the same day. Their rules start in full at that moment, exactly as printed in your proposal
- A permit authority, on three of these tripsDated, limited, non-transferable, and gone the moment it is issued. It is the largest single line on those pages and the least forgiving
- The airline, when the flights are ticketedOn its own timetable, which is rarely the same as the trip's
- Everybody, past the balance dateSomewhere between ninety and sixty days out on most of these. After it, most of these operators keep most of it, and on the ship all of it
What this company can and cannot do about it
- Chase it
- Yes, and in writing, keeping every message
- Read their terms to you before you commit
- Yes, and that is most of the value here
- Tell you plainly when you are being handled badly
- Yes, and it happens
- Move a deadline it did not set
- No
- Waive a charge it does not collect
- No
- Return money it never held
- No. Anybody in this trade who says otherwise is mid-pitch
What the shape of the day changes
- A blank week
- The simplest to unwind. Two suppliers, usually a room and a car, each with its own deadline, and often released separately
- One fixed thing a day
- The bookings are small and individually cancellable, though a few are dated and gone
- A program with gaps
- Harder. A guiding company prices on the whole and rarely unbundles a day of it
- Every hour held
- The least forgiving of the four. A berth, a permit and a convoy place are all inventory that cannot be resold late
When the operator cancels
Their rules decide what you are owed, and those rules reached you before you committed to anything. From here you get pursuit, a written record, and a frank view on whether the treatment is fair. Settling it from this company's own funds is the single thing outside our reach.
What you will not hear from this office
- That the deadlines bend
- They were set by other people and only those people can move them
- That your money always comes back
- It plainly does not, and the stages above say when it stops
- That amendments are free
- Some are, some are expensive, and the proposal says which before you commit
- That cover would fix it
- Nothing of the kind is sold here and no opinion on it is offered
